What We Do

The Barnabas Journey is a ministry that travels to assist small, remote congregations of the Lord's church throughout the greater Northwest. We stay at each congregation for a designated period of time to provide assistance and encouragement while there and if needed, help develop a plan for the future. It is obvious as you look around and travel from state to state that the US is a mission field, as churches have decreased in size, they have also run into issues of burnout for those that preach and teach in smaller bodies that have no one to provide relief. Our objective is to provide these churches and the families who serve them with the kind of encouragement exemplified by the Apostles in the New Testament. Just as every human body is different and presented with its own challenges and obstacles, each body of God's people is unique and struggles with its own. Of course, all can be overcome as we trust in God and move forward in faith. The Barnabas Journey is designed to come alongside these congregations, doing whatever we can for the time that has been deemed necessary to help accomplish the needed work.

How We Do It

Connect and Plan

Finding where we will fit into the bigger picture of the local work and how we will go about accomplishing it is where we will start, this includes getting to know the congregation and the area we will be working in. We are there to help, not take over, the local leadership will need to continue leading and helping us know where we will be best utilized.

Work In Cooperation

Once we have determined the plan and our respective roles, we will collaborate in various ways to achieve the desired goals of our working together. First and foremost, we always want to be sure that God is glorified in all things and that the work we are doing is edifying and effective.

Follow-Up

Toward the end of our time together, we will review our work and reflect on what we learned while there. We will use this opportunity to help the congregation moving forward and if needed plan for a return trip.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your expectations of the congregation?

Nothing except what the Lord requires of all his people, that you desire growth and be about his work. Outside of that, the only thing we do ask, is if it is financially possible that you cover the fee for the RV spot for the duration of our time there.

How long do you stay?

Dependent on the need, anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.

What help do you provide?

We can provide help in a variety of ways from preaching, teaching, women's studies, local evangelism or whatever else may be needed. The goal is to meet the need, not just fill in.

Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.     Romans 15:5-6
