A Dry and Weary Land

"O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land without water. Thus I have beheld You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will laud You. Thus I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name."  Psalm 63:1-4

I have never visited the wilderness of Judea, but from what I have seen in pictures I can gather there are some very parched regions. And so, when David uses this imagery of what it is like to desire God so strongly as if he is water in a dry and weary land, I can get a pretty good idea. Even more so, when I am hiking in an area of what seems to be a waterless land and I come upon a spring or a desert waterfall (like the one above in Kings Canyon) after my skin has been baked by the sun and sandblasted from the coarse sand being blown through the heated air, it is such a great relief and blessing to find these small pockets of relief.

When asked the "What is wrong with our churches?", there can be a number of answers that address particular issues ailing the body in question, but ultimately, I think the answer is found in a lack of desire for God. David gives a great description of how intense our desire should be for our God, like that of water in a dried-up land. I don't always long after God like that, more of needing a bottled water while I am while I am casually strolling through a park. And maybe that is the problem, not realizing that we are in a spiritual desert and are in deep need of that life giving water daily. Just my thoughts today.

I am sending out our monthly newsletter tomorrow morning, if you would like to be added to that list, please your e-mail and I will get it added.   We love you all.
